Better Days Ahead

Last weeks recap is short and sweet:
I took a casual 45 minute walk with my family last Sunday; and I ran a 5K Friday night.

I don't feel it was a total waste. Thankfully I know that when I am not working out and I am spending time doing other quality things or taking care of my family.

But that doesn't mean I don't want to do better. I want to fit in as many workouts as possible, and reach my exercise and weight goals.

With that said, my goals for the new week are:
  • 4 XBox Active workouts
  • 30 min of additional cardio
  • 45 min of additional core
  • 30 min of additional strength
  • 60 min of yoga
  • 135 min of walking
  • 9.5 miles running
I am really trying to ease back into running, but still fit in quality workouts.

The plan looks like this for right now:
  • Mon AM: XA #1
  • Mon PM: Run 2.5 miles, 30 min yoga
  • Tues AM: XA #2
  • Tues PM: 45 min walk, 15 min core, 15 min strength
  • Wed AM: 30 min Cardio, 15 min core, 15 min strength
  • Wed PM: Run 3 mi, 30 min yoga
  • Thurs AM: XA #3
  • Thurs PM: 45 min walk
  • Fri AM: XA #4
  • Fri PM: 45 min walk
  • Sat AM: Run 4 mi, 15 min core
  • Sat PM and Sun AM: Celebrate Easter!
I had to stress the for right now, because I made this plan when I thought spring was going to return this week. Tonight's forecast showed that a few of these most wonderful outdoor workouts might need to be moved to the gym, and changed accordingly.

Here's to reaching high, and getting where we want to be.

Have a great week!

Race Day

Tonight was the 5K I've been planning for!

To be clear, I was not feeling prepared going in. Life has taken it's toll lately, and my last good run was over two weeks ago.

Pathetic, I know.

I did the same race 2 years ago, and finished in 34:27. I was hoping to beat that time, but given the circumstances, wasn't expecting it.

Not to mention Mother Nature. She was not on our side tonight (though the half marathoners tomorrow could have it worse than we did.) It was windy. But, I was surprised how well the wind was blocked most of the race, and that I was actually plenty warm.

I took some walk breaks. Whatever; no big deal. But there were a couple of times I wanted to go longer and faster, but just felt like I couldn't. I was frustrated.

None-the-less, I am satisfied. Because I was out there and did it. Because my final time and pace was right where I have been running. Because this was just the kick I needed to get my butt back in gear. Because I enjoyed being out there, surrounded by others that call themselves runners, too. Because I was surrounded my people of all ability levels, and people running for all sorts of causes. Because I had fun.

Final stats were:
placed 937/1269 total runners. 121/183 in my age division (F- 30-34). 611/895 females.
Time was 38:25. Pace 12:22

Last Week

First, let me tell you about my new fitness 'toy'.
The Kinect for XBox 360, and the EA Sports Active 2 game.
Its been both fun and a good way to work up a good sweat!
The workouts definitely get your heart rate going, but also focus nicely on strength and toning.

So, what did last week look like?

Sunday: XA (XBox Active) workout.
Monday: 15 min of core, and 30 min of yoga.
Tuesday: 20 min walk, and XA workout.
Wednesday: about a 60 min walk with a friend!
Thursday: 3.8 mile walk in 52 min.

And then the cold hit. And I am not talking about the weather. I've got a good old fashioned head cold going on. Friday night I was dead to the world. Saturday morning I still felt like a semi rolled over my head. The afternoon I felt a little better, and we headed out to do some errands. Then I gathered up just enough energy to clean part of the house.

A great start to the week, but not such a good ending.

This week got started with about a 45 min casual walk with the family yesterday.
And how delightful it was.

With the 5K this Friday, I ask you: How do you shake off a cold? And what would you suggest for managing this cold and still performing well in Friday's race?

No Worries ...

I am alive and well.

Just trudging thru this week of Chad being on second.
Makes it harder to get online.
And work has been busy.

But I do plan to recap March goals.
And share April's.

I've been busy!
Workouts have been varied and fun.

Stay tuned!
I promise a post soon.

While you wait for a good post, how about a laugh?

I figured out why I've gained weight.
The shampoo I use in the shower runs down my body.
The label says, "for extra volume and body."
YIKES!
Going to start using Dawn dish washing soap.
It says, "dissolves fat that is otherwise difficult to remove."
