Week 3:
Monday: planned 3 miles; actual rest. After three late nights in a row, I was just plain exhausted. I showered at 7, fell asleep in the chair sometime after 8, and moved to bed around 9:30. I think it was the right choice.
Tuesday: planned Interval Conditioning - kettle bells; actual IC with kettle bells. It wasn't the toughest workout she's put us through! We did end with a couple of tabatas that got the sweat flowing though! I think it felt easier than normal because it was a lot of upper body work, less swings, and minimal cardio. It didn't help that class got interrupted with about 10 minutes left due to a fire alarm!! Good grief. She did run class late though! I honestly was going to run yesterday's 3 miles after, and felt up to it. I didn't, solely because it got so late.
Wednesday: planned 5 miles; actual 5.02 miles. What a frustrating run. On paper it really doesn't look that bad. It's just I struggled to find a good rhythm. No, it wasn't really that either. My legs felt heavy. When I did feel like I was going a good pace, I would look down and realize I was going a good 10 seconds slower than I thought. I wasn't tired; just couldn't get going, I guess. I don't know if I am just worn out this week, if it was too many days since my last run (Saturday), or just a combination of things. But, I will put this run behind me and move on with training! Final time was 54:55 - 10:55 average.
Thursday: planned 3 miles and Interval Conditioning/kettle bells; actual 3.01 miles and IC. It was more of a regular interval conditioning class, we used jump ropes to warm-up, steps for cardio (running up and down, doing elevated planks, box jumps, etc.), and kettle bell stuff in between. I feel like we really worked the shoulders tonight. The run was decent. I actually did that first. I started out feeling really tired (physically) and had a bit of an upset stomach. So I eased into it. It was a good mix of taking it easy but feeling good about the run. I was between 10:15 and 10:30 when I was running, but walked one lap (1/10ish of a mile) at the start of each mile. I needed that just to make sure I wasn't overdoing it tonight. Total it was 3.01 miles in 33:14 - 11:01 average.
Friday: Rest! Like always. Love ending the week with a day of rest and an early bed time.
Saturday: planned 6 miles; actual rest; unless you count the half a dozen times I climbed the sledding hill. I don't know. It was one of those days I couldn't get moving. In the blink of an eye it was going on 11. I decided I was more stressed about the to-do list at home. So, we cleaned the house and spend a little more than an hour at the sledding hill! All in all, I'd say it was a good day. What it really means is that Sunday will be a run day instead of a cross training day.
Sunday: planned Boot Camp; actual 6.58 miles outside! This was my first run outside since the end of December. Not joking. I was actually a little bit nervous. I didn't know how the roads/sidewalks were going to be. I didn't know how the change in surface was going to feel. Overall, it ended up being a great run. The weather was perfect (comparably anyway!). I wore two long sleeve shirts, pants, a hat and gloves. I carried my gloves most of the way and was unzipping and zipping my sweatshirt depending on the wind. My feet got a little wet, but it wasn't miserable like I was afraid of. The pace is hard to pinpoint, since I was dodging show, slush, and puddles throughout. You can tell which miles I had the most road and less sidewalk/side roads ...
| Mile | Time | Change | Avg Pace |
|---|---|---|---|
1
| 12:03 | -- | 12'03"/mi |
2
| 23:13 | - 0:53 (7%) | 11'09"/mi |
3
| 33:51 | - 0:31 (4%) | 10'38"/mi |
4
| 46:04 | + 1:33 (-15%) | 12'12"/mi |
5
| 57:47 | - 0:29 (3%) | 11'43"/mi |
6
| 1:08:30 | - 1:00 (8%) | 10'42"/mi |
(I ran the same loop twice if the pattern says anything!) I did learn if I ever switch to trail running, I will need to do a lot of lower back work to help with the changes in terrain and sudden direction changes! Overall, it was 6.58 miles in 1:15:08 - 11:24 average.
| hitting the pavement for the first time in a long time! |
| this was to be the first street I went down; passed it and came back to it on my warm-up ... needless to say I didn't know what to expect! |
| my feet got wet, but not near as bad as I thought! Ignore the hole in my sock. |

At week's end:
3 runs for a total of 14.61 miles in 2:43:17
2 Interval Conditioning classes in 80 minutes.
Total training time: 3:03:17
3 off days are the most I've had in 3 or 4 weeks. While it makes me feel guilty, or makes me think the strength training I've been trying to incorporate will have no effect, I think this is what I needed this week. Feeling fairly refreshed and ready to tackle week 4.

How was your week? High point? Low point?
