Race Weekend

As we leave for Mankato this morning, I am not sure what my goals are for tomorrow's half-marathon. With my less than stellar training cycle, with minimal miles logged, I am relying on my cross-training and overall fitness level.

I ran several races this summer that I was beyond pleased with. Such as: Diploma Dash, Hog Jog, Brat Trot, and Graniteman 10k.  I am hoping I can take the feeling of that success, even though they were at shorter distances, and push myself through this race. (not taking anything away from Grandma's, just going for more speed this time around!) I really did run a handful of races this summer!

When I first posted my training plan for this race, I admitted that it was quite ambitious. I was really motivated to train for a PR. Maybe it was my known love-hate relationship with races or the timing of training while transitioning back to work, but things just did not go according to plan. Either way, at that time, my goals for this race were:

A goal - 2:20
B goal - between 2:20 - 2:25
C goal - PR with anything faster than 2:27:51
D goal - finish! :)

I don't know if a 2:20 is doable at this point. Rather than set myself up for huge disappointment, I am going to shoot for an 11:00 min/mile average - which I think will be a pretty tough effort. With that said, here's my adjusted goals:

A goal - 2:25 or faster
B goal - PR with anything between a 2:27: 51 and 2:25
C goal - faster than 2:30
D goal - finish! :)

Here's hoping for a "perfect for a run" kind of day!
