Weekly Wrap-Up: 9.22.14 - 9.28.14

Better late than never, right? Off-da. The transition to the new school year has hit me for sure, and I am not feeling the balance I had this summer. Not surprising, I guess. Realizing I am going to have to go back to the drawing board to decide what I can do to scale back my workouts but get the best results, balance having a heavier workload at school than I did last year, and make sure I am spending what time I can with Ava and Chad. Though that is probably not the order I need to prioritize those things in.

At any rate. Here is what last week looked like. It started as a strong cross-training week, but running was not ideal. Especially since I am nearing the end of a training cycle and hoping for a PR at my half. Sounds familiar, huh? I need to quit planning races for a month after crazy, busy life!

----

Monday - planned - 6 miles, TRX. Actual - TRX. It was another one of those evenings of cramming in what I could at work, rushing to get Ava, changing into workout clothes with just seconds to spare, and racing out the door to TRX. Afterwards, I am hungry for supper, and then it is next to impossible to leave for the run.

Tuesday - planned and actual - kickboxing and kettle bells. Tuesday nights are the one night that I have been able to consistently get in what I plan. And I am loving the combination of classes.

Wednesday - planned - speed work and TRX. Since I hadn't ran since my 5 miles on the previous Monday, I skipped speed work and just did a regular old run. I ended with 6.10 miles in 1:11:11, an 11:40 average. It wasn't a great run, but it wasn't terrible. I also skipped TRX, knowing the run was more important to fit in.

Thursday - planned and actual - kettle bells. I love that I feel like she is switching things up lately. Tonight she played 4 songs, about 4 minutes each. Through each song, she gave us three (or four?) exercises that we basically did AMRAP (as many rounds as possible). And, just like I just borrowed that phrase from Cross Fit, I liked that the workout gave it a cross fit or boot camp feel.

Friday - rest

Saturday - planned - 12 miles. Actual - ugh - nothing. With my parents in town, on one hand I had the perfect opportunity to get out for a long run without feeling guilty because Ava could have the time with Nama and Papa. But - on the other hand, I also enjoyed that laid back weekend and spending time with my parents. I spent some time Saturday morning picking up around the house, then my mom and I took Ava to a Harvest Fest that was going on in town. We had a relaxing afternoon, and after supper Chad and I had a date night. Do I regret it? Yeah, but I enjoyed the day, too.

Sunday - rest. I thought about going for my long run. We decided instead to take my parents out for breakfast. The Packers played the Bears at noon, and I don't miss the games that are actually on TV here! :) After the game, it was business as usual for a Sunday evening. Packing lunches, lesson plans, putting away laundry, giving Ava a bath, etc.
