Answering my own questions

Last Friday, I answered 10 questions given to me as part of a Liebster Award. I then nominated some fellow bloggers to answer questions I asked of them. (I hope you will check out their blogs and see their answers ... or just read their blogs regardless of if they answered because there is good information there!). At any rate, I thought it would only be fair to answer my own questions that I asked of others:

1. Who was your biggest role model as you first started running?

At the time, she was just a co-worker. She was training for the Twin Cities Marathon - I don't know if it was her first, second, or what. But - I was envious of her lifestyle! To this day, she is someone I turn to for running advice and motivation. We both ran the Earth Day half-marathon last Saturday, and there were several messages back and forth over the last few weeks encouraging each other to get 'er done. Today, though we live 2+ hours apart, I consider her a friend! Thanks, Nicole!

2.  What is your best running memory?

I thought long and hard about this one, and wondered what I thought my answer would be when I asked the question. I honestly don't know- and there are many good memories. I guess the best one would be finishing my very first race. I ran the Earth Day 5k for the first time in April 2009. My goal was under 40 minutes, and I finished in 34:27! Talk about feeling accomplished. A pregnancy and many a weigh-in yo-yos later, I finally beat that time in April 2013, and again in October 2013. So, it as a cherished time for a long time!

3. The time you now spend running; what was it filled with before you started running?

I am not really sure! A few things that come to mind are my scrapbooks are years behind, I finished school in 2009, and I used to work evening shifts and sleep in!

4. What is your favorite TV show?

Right now, I would have to say my favorite TV show is Chicago Fire, with Chicago PD a close second. It has only been in the last two years or so that I have gotten into a habit of watching series. Before that  I would never get to see a show on a weekly basis, so I didn't bother. Now, the 9:00 time slot is too addicting, and the culprit of my late nights!

5. What is one habit you won't give up, even though you know it is not the healthiest?

Sugar! In any form, really. Mainly in Pepsi. I have waivered on the amount I drink since 2008 from none - minus the occasional dinner out - to one a day, with a few extras snuck in. Lately, it has been one a day, plus about 3 extras during the week. Trying to cut the daily ones out and stick to the here and there ones.

6. If you could have lunch with someone famous, who would you pick?

Maybe someone like Mother Teresa, so I could ask how they constantly maintain such compassion for others. I love being around other people, helping others, and making a difference; but I don't go out of my way to do it. I am more judgmental at times that I like to admit, and can become easily flustered with people. So, it would be interesting to hear how someone who always finds good, puts others before themselves, and can truly say they made a difference in the life of another can just keep going and give so much of themselves. It wouldn't have to be Mother Teresa, but someone that description fits - even if they aren't famous!

7. What is your favorite season for running?

Oddly enough, I don't hate running in summer, even though it is hot and humid. Still, my favorite running season has to be fall. I love the scenery. I love the crisp air. It is not too hot. Not too cold. Not too rainy. There is something extra serene about a fall run in Minnesota.

8. Describe the one route you would be okay running over and over for the rest of your life.

There are actually two routes that come to mind - and they both involve running along water. That would have to be a priority because I think that is the most relaxing place to run. The first is in my hometown, and probably the one I would chose for that reason alone. My hometown is in eastern WI, along Lake Michigan. Running the lake front is a favorite each time I go home. I marvel at it now - even if it's not that spectacular, and wonder how I took having the lake right there for granted. The second is a route around a lake in the middle of  a town. But there is part of the route that is a gravel road, so you get the feeling that you are out in the middle of nowhere without having to leave your backyard. That route was one of the hardest things to leave when we moved to our current town!

9. If time and money were no object, where would you choose to go on vacation?

I thought this one would be easier to answer! I don't think I would go to just one place. I would either take the time and money and travel the world - seeing all the sights I want to see; or I would do something like drive Route 66 and see a variety of things.

10. What is your favorite past time other than lacing up the running shoes?

I would have to say if I could spend the time I spend running with anything else, it would have to be photography. I have done Ava's pictures since she was a baby, photographed just two other families, and even used my tripod to take my own family pictures. I would love to learn more tricks to the trade instead of just getting  few lucky shots! I would love to expand who I take pictures of. And just in general have more time to play with my cameral. I don't always have the time, but it is a top-rated hobby in my book.

Thanks again to those who I nominated that played along! If you'd like to answer the questions, do so in the comments or leave a link to your blog!
