Summer Reading

One thing I love to do, but don't set enough time aside for it, is reading. Through elementary school and middle school, I always had a book on me! In high school, it became less of an interest and I did it less. College was even worse. Aside from not wanting to read after reading for classes, I just filled my free time with other things. Over the last few years, I have gotten back into it some. I still don't do it enough though. Usually during the summer or school breaks (both working in a school and when I was finishing up classes), when I feel like I have more down time, I will get into reading. I will read three or four books consecutively, and then not read another one for many months!

So, one of the goals I set for myself this summer was to do some reading. I started my first book of the summer when I was at my parents two weeks ago, and finished it last week. The book was "When I Found You" by Catherine Ryan Hyde.

From Amazon's website:

"While duck hunting one morning, childless, middle-aged Nathan McCann finds a newborn abandoned in the woods. To his shock, the child—wrapped in a sweater and wearing a tiny knitted hat—is still alive. To his wife’s shock, Nathan wants to adopt the boy…but the child’s grandmother steps in. Nathan makes her promise, however, that one day she’ll bring the boy to meet him so he can reveal that he was the one who rescued him.  Fifteen years later, the widowered Nathan discovers the child abandoned once again—this time at his doorstep. Named Nat, the teenager has grown into a sullen delinquent whose grandmother can no longer tolerate him. Nathan agrees to care for Nat, and the two engage in a battle of wills that spans years. Still, the older man repeatedly assures the youngster that, unlike the rest of the world, he will never abandon him—not even when Nat suffers a trauma that changes both of their lives forever. From the bestselling author of Pay It Forward comes When I Found You, an exquisite, emotional tale of the unexpected bonds that nothing in life can break."

My opinion:

Somewhat of a slow start, and a bit of a predictable story line. Still - I found myself drawn in and wanting to know what would happen, reading too late into the night more than once last week! It was an easy read. Amazon reviews give it 4.4/5 starts; I would probably be between a 3.5 & 4 as well.

After taking a few days off - you know, to run a marathon and stuff - I am ready to start another book!
