Gymnastics Update - Summer 2015

Just like that, she is finished with gymnastics for the summer, too. Where did that time go? Why must summer go so fast?

I think she grew quite a bit in her self-confidence throughout this summer. I also saw her better able to do what they asked of her compared to previous attempts at gymnastics; of course that could be developmental, the teachers, her experience in dance, the twice a week sessions, or numerous other factors. In general, she liked it enough that I think we are going to do a fall session that starts up in the middle of September. After that, we'll just have to see how it goes!

Here are some pictures and videos I took sporadically over the last month. They spent a lot of time on forward rolls and the balance beam. They also got some time on the vault and the uneven bars, but not as much - and those apparatuses are so far from the parent bleachers, in a large room with poor lighting, that pictures were next to impossible anyway.

There was an "older" lady (compared to the high school girls that teach the littles) that I really liked. I feel like she did much better at teaching the gymnastics, and she even made them walk like gymnasts!

Balancing on one foot! It wasn't this same day, but it was a day said instructor was working that they walked backwards on the beam. Ava impressed me that day, and I wish I would have had my phone to take a picture or video!

from needing to hold a hand to high kicks by herself.

On the very last night (last night) they got to go on the "high" beam. This made her nervous, but she did it!

needing help, but trying! For the big girls, this is their medium beam. So proud of her for trying it!

With that Summer '15 of t-ball, swimming, and gymnastics is over. Fall will bring us back to dance, gymnastics, maybe a 4 week soccer league, and a one day cheerleading camp (that lasts an hour) with the opportunity to cheer at the high school game the following week. While it gets to be a lot, it is so fun to watch and observe her during this time of self-discovery. I will never wish away time with her, but I look forward to seeing what she is doing in 5, 10, 20 years!
