Race Goals!

This weekend brings upon me my "comeback" race, as I am dubbing it. My first race since last October, and my first race since my hiatus this spring.

Women Rock - there are a number of race distances - 5k, 10k, half. In addition, this year they added a 2.5k on Friday night, and challenges if you run the 2.5k, the 5k, and one of the longer two races.

I opted to stick to the 10k, although the challenges were intriguing! I am also doing the 2.5k on Friday night, with Ava!

Women Rock is pretty special to me, since it was where I ran my first two half-marathons!

2012 - my first half!

with my twin sister after finishing in 2013

My 10k PR from last year is 1:01; while I don't expect to beat that, I do have some goals for myself.

A Goal: Finish in 1:12 (or slightly over; 12 min/mile pace). I've had two runs at the beginning of this week that were my fastest of the summer, and weren't too far off from this. If everything goes perfect, and I can push .... maybe.

B Goal: Finish between 1:12 - 1:18. When I first started running again at the start of this summer, I was closer to 13 min/mile. If I can finish anywhere in this range, I will feel good about being consistent this summer.

C Goal: Finish feeling strong. Even if I can't maintain those paces, I want to at least finish knowing I left everything out on the course. I don't want to feel like I could've given more.

I am anticipating a hill, that the years I ran the half was right around mile 10. I know they have since changed the half course, but something tells me that hill is still going to part of it.

So, here goes nothing! Hoping for a good, fun, and rewarding weekend!

Are you racing this weekend? What are your goals?

Have you ever had to comeback and run a race knowing a PR was not a possibility? This is one of the first times I've run a race knowing a PR wasn't likely. It is not the greatest feeling in the world, but life happens. Setbacks occur. We just need to pick up where we are, and not focus on where we were. I am finally coming to terms with that!

Good luck this weekend! Yes I have had lots of races where I have known a PR is not on the table. 2 years ago I hurt my quad and it took forever to get back running strong, but I dont' know that I will ever PR again in the half marathon.
