Weekly Wrap-Up: 9.1.14 - 9.8.14

Considering it was bound to be a hectic week with Ava starting pre-school and me having students back, it was a good one. I can't say I am all caught up at work ... but I knew it was important to start strong with consistency. I had to get a feel for what the school year routine will feel like if I want to maintain it for the next 8 months!

---

Monday - planned 6 miles. It was not a strong run, but I did it. I ended up finishing 6.03 miles in 1:13:17, a 12:09 average. As it's gone this summer, the first mile was slow and sluggish. When I finally got into a good rhythm, I seriously had to stop and wait for a train to pass. Getting going again was rough on my knee - it's been hard to explain exactly what the pain has been like, but tonight it was like it would lock up and I couldn't move it through the whole down, up, back motion. Does that make any sense? If I run, walk, run - it will eventually loosen back up. Ended the run feeling okay.

Tuesday - planned and actual - Kickboxing and Interval Conditioning/kettle bells.

Wednesday - planned 7x400 (about 5 miles total) and TRX. There were no spots left for TRX - so I just headed to the track to do my speed work session. The warm-up was tough, mainly because I had to loosen up that dang knee. I walked more than I ran on the way to the track, so when I got there I made my warm up a tad longer. Amazingly, once I started my repeats, the knee was fine and didn't bother me the rest of the night. This was the first speed work session this training cycle that I had a 400m repeat slower than 2:00. I actually had two at 2:00 and one at 2:01 - my first three at 2:00 or higher. My recovery laps were slower than normal, too. Just one of those nights, I guess. Generally, I am enjoying incorporating some speed work. Once I ran my cool down home, I ended with 5.52 miles in 1:08:15.

Thursday - planned and actual -Cycling and Kickboxing. It was a cycling class I hadn't been to before, and with an instructor I hadn't gone to before for cycling (I've gone to some of her other classes). Considering I know she is more than capable of kicking some butt, I didn't think the workout was super difficult. We did intervals of spinning (around 90 RPMs) and hills, each interval getting longer until we had done a 5 minute spin and a 4 minute hill. Then we had a brief recovery and repeated what he had already done - except the spinning cycles were shorter than the hills. And we didn't have time to go all the way back up to 5/4! Long story short, I suppose I could have upped my RPMs or increased my resistance on the hills. Kickboxing was good, too. I am getting used to this Tues/Thurs 6:30 class, and generally like it.

Friday - Rest!

Saturday - 6.2 miles in 1:01! What a race that was! :)

Sunday - I realized about mid-week that I didn't even address Sunday when I planned out my week! I was hoping to go to the Y for the new class they are starting on Sunday afternoons; however, found out Sunday classes aren't starting until next week even though Sunday hours started today. I thought about running some miles, but really want to stick to my plan of slowing increasing miles again following my lack-luster August and while dealing with this knee. I could have done some at home strength or cross-training. I ended up just taking the rest day. Mainly because I needed to get reacquainted with my Sunday routine of getting ready for the work week and since I was gone yesterday I had some chores to do! (Weekends are much more relaxed when you can split those into two days!) I did figure out the checkbook and pay bills, laundry, clean bedrooms, and the bathroom. On top of things like giving Ava a bath and prepping lunches. Too bad that list of things doesn't burn as many calories as a good workout.

Weekly totals:

17.28 miles of running
4 group fitness classes

6:17:58 time training

What was your high for the week? low? When do you normally do the majority of your household chores? Do you like to get them all done at one time or spread them out during the week?
