Weekly Wrap-Up: 6/23/14 - 6/29/14

The goal for this week was to rest from the marathon, but yet maintain fitness.

Monday: had the intentions of trying a walk or some yoga, but I woke up sore yet. It ended up just being a rest day, and was probably a good choice.

Tuesday: I did both the 45 minute cycling class and 40 minute Interval Conditioning class with kettle bells. The soreness was 95% gone, and the classes went well. I did notice I tired quicker, and the squats and lunges at IC kicked my butt! All in all, I'd call it a successful day.

Wednesday: I went to a 50 minute kickboxing class. Although I've done cycle box, and now cycling, this was my first full kickboxing class. I enjoyed it, but do notice that when doing kickboxing my effort varies. I will start out strong, but then notice I barely feel like I am hitting the bag. I love the sequences of hits, but they are what hang me up! I have to think about what to do next! Also, my coordination when it comes to kicks is subpar. I will say I did feel it in my forearms the next day, so I must've done something right!

Thursday: I did the 30 minute HIIT classes that goes on when Ava is in gym & swim. We started with a 5 minute run on the track, and then did about 20-25 minutes of tabatas before 5-10 minutes of cool down and stretching. Instead of a true 30 seconds hard and 30 seconds rest, she did active rest. I've done tabatas as part of my IC class, but these were different moves. I didn't love them - and honestly had a hard time telling what was supposed to be hard and what was supposed to be active recovery. I ended up doing what I could and resting when I needed. It wasn't a bad class, just not what I was maybe expecting.

Friday: I intended to go out for a run from my in-laws, but woke up not really feeling it. I am sure the hardest step would have been the first one out the door, but took the day off regardless.

Saturday: Aside from a lot of standing at the bean bag tournament and street dance, and of course throwing bags, it was another rest day!

Sunday: We got home about 4, and were worn out! But I pretty much knew I wouldn't do anything when we came back anyway.

I would have liked to end the week on a stronger note, but overall I don't think it was a terrible week coming off a marathon.

Total training time:

0 running
4 group fitness classes for a total of 165 minutes (2:45)
