Girl Scouts: Ornament Making

Another topic I intended to share a week ago, but time just got away from me.

Ava joined Girl Scouts at the start of the school year, and seems to look forward to it. They meet twice a month, and are a fairly active troop. Although at meetings the Daisies (kindergartners and first graders) meet separate from the Brownies and Juniors, I think it is kind of neat that they are a multi-aged group.

Last Monday was especially fun because we got to make ornaments to bring to the nursing homes when we go caroling next week. The girls did a great job forming an assembly line to put together melted snowman ornaments! Super cute. Each girl got to bring one home too, so Ava has one hanging on her little tree!

Ava got to man the "eye" station; carefully dropping two eyes into each melted snowman!

We were actually missing two girls this night who have older sisters; the older girls didn't meet last Monday because of a conflict with the 5th grade band concert. I am guessing that was why they weren't there. It is a fun group of girls though; they are very different and more diverse than some of the other friend groups Ava has been around, and I sort of appreciate that!

Workouts this week have been according to plan so far:

Monday - planned rest day (although it wasn't needed since I didn't do much all weekend ...)

Tuesday - kettle bells. It was a tough one! We did 50 one arm swings per side, 25 squats with an overhead raise per side, 50 squat thrushers using gliders, 10 half-Turkish get ups per side, and 50 slow mountain climbers. And then repeated it! I didn't make it all the way through he second time ... too slow I guess. She had us finish with a finisher - 20 swings, jump squats, 19, 18, 17 ... etc. down to 1. I honestly don't know how many squat jumps we were supposed to do as I went to get a drink! I just made it up as I went along! The last thing we did was a 2:20 plank as we work our way up to a holiday plank of 3 minutes. In the past, I was doing 1:30 before I would get super uncomfortable, but the last two times have been really hard to hold after a minute or so ... frustrating. I know she always tells us it is our workout and to take a break if needed. I feel like I've at least done a decent enough job of getting right back to plank even if I have set my knees down briefly as we've built up, but I'd really like to hold that 3:00 minute plank. How awesome would that be.

Hoping to stay on track the next few days even with the last minute push to get caught up at work before break. Sigh ... so much to do, so little time.
