Gymnastics: Then and Now

When we were registering for next year's dance season, I asked Ava is she wanted to do kick and jazz. This would be the first year jazz was an option for her, since it starts in kindergarten. Of course she said, "yes!" However, I wasn't keen on paying for two uniforms. Chad wasn't keen on her having dance two nights a week. And, while she loves dance, there are weeks she doesn't want to go. I didn't want her to start a class that she wasn't going to finish.

So, I did what any mother would do. I made an agreement with her. I told her if she did only once dance class (which we pay monthly for), I'd make it up to her by letting her take another gymnastics class (which is typically eight sessions through the YMCA). Rather than waiting for the school year, I decided to sign her up for a  summer session, which will actually run for five weeks, twice per week - so 10 sessions!

It started on Monday night, and I think she enjoyed it! Before I share pictures from that, here's a look back at the other gymnastics classes she's taken!

In January 2013, I signed her up for a Parent/Child class. She looks so little! And could she be any cuter running around in that video I found?!!?

Then last summer (2014), she did a swim and gym class. This started with  gymnastics and was immediately followed by a swimming lesson. All the videos I had were from swimming and jumping into the deep end!  Definitely looking taller and older compared to the previous pictures!

And finally the pictures and videos from this week!  (I was going to try to get videos, but everything is set so far from the bleachers and there are too many obstacles in the way!) She will have gymnastics Mondays and Wednesdays through most of August. I won't watch all of the classes in full, since there is conveniently a 30 minute TRX class that runs at the same time. So far, I'd say she likes it!

Cute! My daughter took gymnastics last year and loved it, although there were some weeks she did not want to go! I am just getting ready to sign her up for another year.
