Weekly Wrap-Up: 6.22.15 - 6.28.15

Another week into summer. Why must time pass so quickly? I did what I could with another busy summer weekend to plan around! Here's the run-down.

Monday: Monday's are becoming a typical run day, like they had been previously. I generally enjoy Monday runs, assuming I've had some rest days over or around the weekend. It's the start of the week, ideally on fresh legs! Sunday night and Monday I had a sore throat and wasn't feeling great, so I didn't know what to expect from the run. It was tough, but I enjoyed running a new route out and around on some country roads. I thought the route was going to be a tad longer, but am okay that it is not! When I get into long runs it will be a nice way to add to my other go-to routes. I ended with 5.55 miles in 1:18:08. Slower than I'd like, but not bad for coming back.

Tuesday: I did a cycling class for some cross training before heading out to Ava's t-ball game. I was not feeling good still - stuffed up and cold in chest - so it was tough to put forth a good effort. Still, I guess some effort is better than no effort. Needless to say, I was glad that 45 minutes was over when it was.

Wednesday: Ran 4.20 miles in 54:06. This was three minutes faster than when I ran the exact same route almost two weeks prior. Plus I had three miles, in a row, that I ran faster than 13 minutes. Doesn't seem like much, but I can't remember the last time I ran anything slower than 12 minute miles (and last fall that had gotten to be a slow run). It felt great to see some progress! I have been following a run/walk method. Mostly, I've been running 1 min, walking 1 min. Tonight I shortened every other walk segment to 30 seconds. It worked! In the next week or two, I am hoping to either increase the run portions, or decrease all the walk breaks. I haven't decided which yet.

Thursday: My favorite - kettle bell interval conditioning! I haven't been getting to this class twice a week like I would like to mainly due to Ava's activities. I am loving the nights I do get there though. Progress is progress, and my favorite from tonight was that I felt fairly comfortable doing clean and presses with the 20lb bell. Can't wait to get back to increasing the weight I use on swings again.

Friday: ended up as a rest day/travel day. We were headed to my in-laws for the weekend.

Saturday: I already eluded earlier in the week how this run went - it was a tough one. It was hot. I hadn't eaten breakfast. And oh.my.god - did I forget how many hills those country roads had. It was slow and miserable (1:08:10), but it was 4.73 miles I wouldn't have gotten in otherwise.

Sunday: another travel day. I was hoping to get out for a short run when we got home and unpacked, but a brief evening thunderstorm threw that plan out the window. That's how these summer weekends roll!
