Shin Splints

Ouch.

A little under two weeks ago, I think I mentioned I had been feeling a little bit of pain on the insides of my legs, slightly above my ankle. I knew it felt like shin splints. I just didn't know that you could get shin splints on the side of the leg.

But, I confirmed with the track coach in the high school I work at that, yes, you can.

He also told me that shin splints on the inside of my leg, most likely means I am running funny.

Which explains why my last 3 runs or so, I have felt like I was not "square" on the treadmill. I turning my feet for one reason or another.

Anyway. The pain started in my right leg. Then I felt it in both legs. And now it is in my left leg.

Tuesday mornings run was the first run that I could feel the pain while I ran. Before that it was only after. To clarify, on Tuesday I could feel it when I ran but not to the point of pain. Throughout the day Tuesday it did not hurt any more than it had been.

Tuesday night, I iced my left leg while watching The Biggest Loser. Tuesday night at 12, I woke up to go to the bathroom, and it hurt to step on the leg!

Needless to say, I have not done any running since. (I totally meant to still cross train, but haven't done that either. Boo.)

What is your experience with shin splints?
How do you take care of the pain? How long did it last?
Did you rest completely or strength train?
Should I try another run and see how it feels?

This is just no fun.
